SMEDA launches Best Business Plan competition 2013!

Are you in Mauritius and have a Business Plan of a project you have in mind? The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has launched the Best Business Plan Competition 2013, with prizes going up to Rs 100,000! This is a great opportunity to start and boost your business!

Objectives

The SME BEST BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION 2013 is being organised in line with the government’s policy of promoting an entrepreneurial culture and nation. It aims at creating entrepreneurial interest for eventual business start-ups and at rewarding innovative and viable best business plans.

Prizes

The Awards consist of trophies, cash prizes and certificates.
 
Winner: Rs 100,000
1st Runner-up: Rs 60,000
2nd Runner-up: Rs 40,000

Structure of Business Plan:

The business plan shall relate to a project with an annual turnover not exceeding 50 million rupees and should not contain more than 20 A4 pages including appendices. It should be structured as follows:
  • An executive summary
  • A description of the business
  • Operations Management
  • Organisation of the Sales and Marketing
  • Strategic Planning & Management
  • Leadership, Social Responsibility and Environment Protection
  • Financial Management (cash flow statement, profit and loss account, balance sheet)
  • Appendices

Assessment

An independent jury panel will assess the business plans, shortlist best ones and convene participants to make a presentation.
 
Main areas of assessment:
  • Presentation
  • Innovation & business acumen
  • Marketing & research
  • Management
  • Viability of the business
  • Impact on the society (economy, environment, value addition…)

Procedures:

a) The participant is required to enrol in the prescribed form by the 14th June 2013 so as to express his/her intention to compete for the Award. Each participant can compete for only one business plan.
 
b) The format of the business plan can be download from the web site
www.smeda.mu. For additional guidance, the participant is requested to contact SMEDA Head Office, Coromandel.
 
c) The business plan should be submitted in 3 printed copies and a soft copy (CD) at the SMEDA, Coromandel by the 15th August 2013.
 
d) The Jury Panel will carry out an assessment exercise and shortlist participants to make a
presentation
 
e) The winners will be known during an award ceremony.

Key Dates

The deadline to enter the contest is June 14, 2013. The business plan must be submitted to the SMEDA later than August 15, 2013.

  1. This kind of event is really noteworthy as it encourages our community to raise strong willed individuals. Comparing it to reality, Business management is not a relaxed industry; we’ve seen many Entrepreneurs who failed miserably. It is exciting to see how this type of competition plays out, and how the students were tested to the best of their ability.
